About Betacam tapes
Betacam is Sony’s professional analog component videocassette format, introduced in 1982. It became the workhorse of broadcast news and production for decades, at far higher quality than consumer formats like VHS. Note: Betacam is a professional format and is not the same as consumer Betamax.
Betacam tapes degrade like other analog tape, with dropout, mold, and sticky-shed, but the pressing problem is equipment: working Betacam decks are increasingly rare, so the window to transfer these masters is closing.
Betacam cannot play in any consumer VCR; it requires a professional Betacam deck, usually paired with a time-base corrector for a clean, stable capture.
How we convert your Betacam tapes
Betacam is a professional analog component format, so a proper transfer means a serviced broadcast deck, time-base correction for a stable image, and a monitored, low-compression capture. That is a different process from running a consumer tape through a warehouse.
We transfer Betacam on professional broadcast decks with time-base correction, monitored in real time, so your masters are captured properly rather than run through a consumer pipeline.

Why professionals trust us with irreplaceable masters
Media professionals do not drop irreplaceable masters into a mail-in box. Betacam tapes often carry footage that cannot be re-shot, and the transfer has to be done on the right equipment, by people who know the format, in a facility you can actually reach and talk to.

Legacy Digital did a fabulous job of getting our old family films and slides on dvd for my parents’ anniversary. The quality was amazing and my parents were so surprised. Scott was so helpful picking up and delivering our order saving us time and gas money and keeping our family treasures safe from the mail. I definitely would recommend them to anyone and in fact am calling them again to do all of our VHS tapes and camcorder tapes next.
