Question one: resolution, and why 480p matters more on film than tape
480p is standard definition, the resolution of a DVD. On a VHS tape that is close to what the tape holds anyway, so a 480p transfer of VHS is a defensible choice.
Film is different. An 8mm or 16mm frame holds far more detail than standard definition can carry, which is why scanning at Full HD or 2K captures information a 480p scan simply discards. Question two: one-to-one capture versus restoration
“One-to-one” is an honest phrase and worth understanding. It means the scanner records exactly what the film looks like today, magenta shift and all, and nobody adjusts it. That is cheaper because it removes the human step.
Scene-by-scene color restoration is the human step: someone watches your reel, corrects the shift scene by scene, and reduces grain. It is the difference between a record of a faded reel and something that looks like the day it was shot.

Inside Edition aired a report raising allegations that Legacybox lost, damaged, and destroyed customers’ film and posted fake reviews. Why the calendar is part of the decision
Magnetic tape and film both degrade. Color dyes shift, binders break down, tape sheds oxide. Whatever is left on the media today is the ceiling for any service, at any price, and that ceiling drops every year.
